To assist the fire and rescue service in identifying each level of a building, storey identification signs clearly indicate the level by stating "Floor Number". These signs should be positioned on every landing of a fire-fighting stairway and at each fire-fighting lobby (or open access balcony) where a fire-fighting lift discharges. It is recommended that storey ID signs are accompanied by dwelling indicator signs, which should be placed directly below the Storey ID sign. These additional signs provide information regarding the dwellings (flats or maisonettes) located on the respective storey.
